OpenAI is beta-testing a new voice cloning tool called Voice Engine. It can generate natural-sounding speech from a 15-second audio sample.
The company behind ChatGPT claims it is taking steps to prevent misuse, saying it will not release Voice Engine publicly, with it currently only being available to early testers.
Voice cloning AI technology is not new and has already been misused in fraudulent extortion scams targeting families.
