One year after a leaked, racist phone call upended his political career, Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de Leon says he’s going to run again. de Leon, who represents some or all of downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, El Sereno, and Eagle Rock, says he wants his name on the March ballot for a chance to serve another four years. de Leon says many of his political allies have abandoned him, but his constituents have not. The race for his seat is crowded. Nearly a dozen people have declared their candidacy. If one candidate does not receive a clear majority of the vote in March, the top two vote-getters will enter into a runoff for the seat.
