(Tallahassee, FL) — Disney is one step closer to losing the power to govern itself in Florida. House lawmakers yesterday approved replacing the Reedy Creek Improvement District with a five-member board appointed by the governor. State Representative Fred Hawkins sponsored the bill and says it’s not a repeal of the Reedy Creek District; rather, he says it’s a way to ensure the company doesn’t have an unfair advantage over its competitors. The bill needs to pass the state Senate before Republican Governor Ron DeSantis can sign it into law.
