Mayor Bass Rescinds Hollywood Sign Directive
(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in rescinding an executive directive signed by her predecessor concerning the Hollywood Sign. The “L.A. Times” says Bass shut down a directive approved by former Mayor Eric Garcetti that would have created a program to illuminate the world-famous icon. Bass wrote a memo to city department leaders saying there will be no replacement order. Garcetti signed the directive December 11th, which was his final day in office. It would have set up an 18-month pilot program to allow the sign to be lit up. A report would be sent to the City Council at the end of 18 months on the impact of the program. Nearby residents oppose the illumination of the Hollywood Sign due to concerns over traffic and the potential impact to wildlife.
