(Sacramento, CA) — The Sierra Nevada is still digging out after a pair of winter storms dumped multiple feet of snow in the mountains and rain from Blythe to Crescent City. The recent storms are having an impact on the historically dry conditions in California. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, at the end of summer, 17-percent of the Golden State was in the highest category of dryness, “exceptional drought.” After recent storms, that number is down to 13-percent. One year ago, 28-percent of the state was in the exceptional drought category. However, water watchers are worried about a repeat of last year when a record-setting wet December gave way to the driest January-through-March on record.

With the recent storm, is the drought over? Will it ever be?
