(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles’ citywide eviction moratorium officially has an end date. The pandemic is long over but the City Council has only now voted to stop the COVID-era eviction moratorium on February 1st of next year That’ll be nearly three years after it was put into place to prevent people struggling financially because of the pandemic from winding up homeless. Landlords will once again be allowed to kick tenants out for –imagine this–not paying their rent and for other reasons, like having unauthorized residents or pets. Los Angeles has some of the last COVID-era eviction protections left in the nation.

Novel idea: Renters will finally have to pay their rent. But not ’til next year.
