(Chicago, IL) — An investigation is underway for an eight-year-old girl who was shot and killed by a stray bullet in Chicago over the weekend. Police report Melissa Ortega and her guardian were on walk this past Saturday when gunshots rang out, and her guardian discovered young Melissa had been shot in the head by a stray bullet, which ultimately killed her. While police say another man coming out of a nearby store was the intended target, the suspects still remain at large. According to recent report by Chicago police, shootings in the city are up by 11-percent compared to 2020, and up by a whooping 63-percent compared its pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
