(Los Angeles, CA) — An investigation continues after thieves broke into cargo containers and made off with thousands of packages at a downtown Los Angeles railway station–and the pictures went viral. Union Pacific Railroad spokeswoman Lupe Valdez says the suspects get arrested — yet manage to return to the scene of the crime since they usually don’t have to pay bail. Most are out of custody within 24 hours. There are piles of shredded boxes littering train tracks at the Union Pacific rail yard. The packages belong to people from all over the U.S. Authorities say the locks Union Pacific uses are easy to cut. The LAPD does not respond to train robberies unless assistance is requested. Meanwhile — Union Pacific is beefing up its security patrols at the rail yard.
