(Los Angeles, CA) — Tenants in L.A. are receiving a benefit few others will experience. Landlords in the city are prohibited from raising the cost of rent until 2023. The mandate effects more than 650-thousand units citywide, which is nearly 75-percent of L.A.’s apartment stock. While tenants celebrate, the rent freeze is seen as a burden by landlords who say cost to maintain properties has risen sharply. However, Mayor Eric Garcetti, still unsure of his confirmation as ambassador to India, made 5 months ago, said the freeze is here to stay, especially with the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
