(Burbank, CA) — Johnny Depp says he was asked to resign from his role in “Fantastic Beasts.” The actor’s removal from the “Harry Potter” spinoff series comes after losing a libel case against the tabloid “The Sun,” accusing him of spousal abuse in his marriage to Amber Heard. Depp says he plans to file for an appeal and denies the claims. Warner Bros. plans to recast the role of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald and pushed the release date for the third film to the summer of 2022.
