The day was founded in 2005 to show love to the cats ready in people’s lives and to raise awareness about cat adoption. If people can’t adopt a cat, they are encouraged to show love to a cat that is already in their lives. Cat owners are sharing photos of their feline friends on their social media with the hashtag #NationalCatDay.
