(San Francisco, CA) — Uber will likely shut down its service in California if it is forced to classify its drivers as employees. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told MSNBC he has argued governments should create a third way of classifying employees. A California court ruled Uber and Lyft must classify their drivers as full-time employees, giving them all the benefits required by law. The companies want to keep them classified as independent contractors. Khosrowshahi has argued there should be a middle ground where they are not full-time employees, but companies can give them some benefits. The companies are likely going to appeal the court’s ruling. Also, the ballot measure Prop 22 would repeal the controversial AB5 that has negatively impacted the so-called ‘gig economy’
