Thunberg Launches Open Letter Calling For Action On Climate Change
(Undated) — Greta Thunberg has launched an open letter signed by thousands of activists and celebrities calling for immediate action against climate change. The teenage climate activist announced it on Twitter this morning, with the hashtag #FaceTheClimateEmergency. Thunberg wrote, “This is our open letter and demands to global leaders, signed by thousands of activists, scientists” and “society influencers.” She added, “We’ll keep collecting signatures and urge everyone to sign and share.” Celebrity signatures include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda and Shawn Mendes. The letter calls for the immediate halt of all fossil fuel investments and subsidies, for making extensive damage to the ecosystem an international crime, and for transparency in reporting the total emissions in the shipping and flight industries, among other demands.
