(Los Angeles, CA) — Don’t expect to see many firework displays this Fourth of July. Most firework shows this year have been quietly canceled in an effort to avoid large gatherings because of the coronavirus pandemic. Shows already canceled include Americafest in Pasadena, Grand Park and Music Center in Downtown LA, Marina Del Rey’s 4th Of July Fireworks Show, Hollywood Bowl’s 3-night Fireworks Spectacular and Newport Beach’s annual fireworks display to name a few.
The pandemic seems to be building up a big demand for Americans to celebrate something. With the Fourth of July coming up, they’ve already started. One supplier says sales of fireworks are up 200-percent over this time last year. It’s not the only thing up, as Chicago police say they have already lodged more than seven thousand complaints over fireworks this year. There were less than a thousand at the same point last year. Even in New York were fireworks are illegal there have been more than 12-hundred complaints made.

All fireworks are illegal in the city of Los Angeles, but that hasn’t stopped a surge in the number of calls to area police. Read more from our news partner KTLA 5 HERE.
And the LAPD tweeted this:
A lot of talk on Twitter about fireworks. Do you think they’re annoying? As a reminder, all fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Please don’t use 911 to report fireworks (unless it’s a true emergency), but you can use this online portal complaint.lacity.org/Complaint/fire
