A safety expert who was sent in to examine the Aliso Canyon leak in Los Angeles says it gave him cancer. Kenneth Bruno says the gas company Sempra Energy didn’t warn him about the dangers. In his lawsuit, he says he now has a rare form of cancer associated with benzene, one of the chemicals he came into contact with. Sempra, the parent company of Southern California Gas Company, says there is no long-term risk from the gas leak. They say Bruno is misstating the facts. The 2015 leak lasted several months and caused thousands of residents to move.
