The world famous Coney Island Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest was so a few weeks ago. Tomorrow is Fresno’s second annual Tacos World Taco-Eating Championships.
One of the competitors is the number 3 ranked competitive eater in the world, Matt Stonie. The 26 year old YouTube star, finished just behind Joey Chestnut last year in the Taco Truck Throwdown 7 contest, who won with 92 tacos in 8 minutes. Stonie downed 83. Chestnut won’t be here this year, so Stonie says this is his year to clean up with the carne asada tacos with onions and win the $4,000 prize.
“I’ve got a whole new field to compete against this year. I am anticipating north of 90 tacos this year. I’ve done over 100 tacos in other events. A couple of days ago, I made some tacos and ate a bunch to replicate the contest as much as possible by timing myself.”
He goes on to say while tacos and hot dogs are easier to eat in competition, his worst eating competition memory was consuming hard boiled eggs.
