The union for L.A.’s cops is happy about the mayor’s pick to be the new chief.
Los Angeles Police Protective League President Craig Lally says LAPD Assistant Chief Michael Moore is a good choice.
”He’s the senior command staff officer with the department going on 36 years. He’s got a tremendous amount of experience. We’re actually really looking forward to working with him.”
He says the morale of the force would improve if more officers were hired.
”The ultimate goal would be about 13,500. That would be the lowest number that we would want. You look at the City of New York, they have 35,000 cops. Chicago’s got more cops on the streets, even though we have more population in the City of L.A.”
There are currently about 9,000 LAPD officers. He says that will not be enough for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Craig Lally was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
