Alex Johnson, director of Californians for Safety and Justice, says according to their own report, the state could save $1.5 billion by releasing 30,000 inmates.
“That $1.5-billion could then go into the things that we all know works in our preventive factors and preventive resources to help keep people out of prison.”
The organization also led the way for the passage of propositions 47 and 57. Law enforcement agencies however have been opposed to such reforms that lead to the early release of inmates.
