Legislation being considered by the state Assembly would re-name part of the Golden State Freeway in the San Fernando Valley the ‘Ritchie Valens Memorial Highway’:
The bill was introduced by Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra of Pacoima. It would re-name the stretch of the 5 between the 170 and the 118 in honor of the rock-and-roll legend. Richie Valens, who was killed in a 1959 plane crash along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, grew up in Pacoima. DA, KABC News.
