Students from about half a dozen high schools in East L.A. are skipping class, saying they’re worried what a Trump presidency will mean for their parents.
They are afraid of what will happen if Donald Trump follows through with his campaign promise to deport millions of illegal immigrants.
“All of our parents don’t have papers so it’s like, it’s going to be a tragedy in here, to depart all the immigrants back to their place.
Arlene Contreras from Mendez High School says though they’re only students, they still have a voice.
“My mom is like, ‘if you want to do this, go for it. You have a voice. You should say whatever you want.”
She’s hoping that after marching to city hall with her fellow classmates, they will change the minds of those in power.
