Getting around traffic bottle necks used to be the privilege of long-time local residents. Now, thanks to apps such as Google Maps and Waze, everyone is finding what were once secret short cuts. The result is many very small streets are frequently jammed up with motorists looking to get around rush hour congestion. Such is the case for Alyson Sullivan, the actress/entrepreneur who owns SullivanFarmFood.com and lives on the very steep Baxter Street near Lake Shore Avenue in Echo Park.
“We’re just hoping to get a No Left Turn sign off of Lake Shore to stop these poor drivers who don’t know they’re about to turn up or turn down one of the steepest hills. In LA, there’s a lot of cars that can’t make it up. We had a limo stuck at the very top – so both sides – the tires weren’t touching. They had to call a tow truck just to pull them over to get over the hill. We’re dealing with not just traffic, but also road rage and accidents.”
Sullivan says the street can be quite a challenge for older cars.
“I feel bad for the cars, too, who can’t make it up the hill or who have bad brakes and are screeching half-way down the hill because they can’t slow down.”
Sullivan was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning with Doug McIntyre and Terri-Rae Elmer.
