California Congressman Tom McClintock is not happy with the way Senator Ted Cruz blew his chance to help unify his party at last night’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Like many in the party, he was stunned when Cruz refused to endorse Donald Trump. Even so, he is not faulting Trump for letting Cruz get on the stage, even though he knew in advance that Cruz would not endorse him.
“It was a judgement call – it was important not to yank his speaking slot just because he wouldn’t endorse. I think it shows great strength and confidence from Trump and the Trump campaign. That doesn’t excuse his (Cruz’s) complete lack of class in exploiting the invitation he had been given.”
McClintock said Trump hit a home run in his choice of Indiana Governor Mike Pense to be his running mate.
“I served with him for four year in the House. He is the most genuine person you’re ever going to encounter in politics what you saw on the stage is what he’s like. He is unassuming, he’s steady and absolutely devoted to principle. I think he makes a tremendous addition to the ticket.”
As for tonight’s critical acceptance speech.
“I think he needs to be himself….that kind of blunt talk even though a lot of us will kind of wince at it, I think is what has engaged the country.”
McClintock was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terri-Rare Elmer.
