The City of Angels will soon become more feline-friendly with the opening of its first “cat cafe.” “Crumbs and Whiskers” founder Kanchan Singh says the new hot spot will open in the fall on Melrose Avenue at Fairfax.
“Cats are not on the menu! What is on the menu is what you’d expect at your local coffee shop, coffees, teas, lattes, cappuccinos – we like to call them ‘cat-a-ccinos,’ ” says Singh. “We don’t like to go too crazy with the menu because we tried that in D.C – we’re D.C.-based – we tried that here and the cats tried to eat everyone’s food and it was chaos.”
To conform with health codes, Singh says they get the food from offsite.
“We partner with another local coffee shop and we do deliveries per reservation period.”
Customers make reservations and arrive in groups to find their orders ready to consume at the cafe.
But you can’t bring your own cat.
“We actually have shelter cats. One of the goals of this cat cafe is to house shelter cats who are at high risk and need a place to stay.”
So, the deal is you get to hang out with some friends and enjoy the company of cats.
