Decimated by competition from Ride Sharing companies, legislation has been introduced to deregulate the taxicab industry in California.
Silicon Valley Assemblyman Evan Low introduced the measure, which is currently under review in the Senate Rules Committee.
“In San Francisco the number of trips taken by taxi dropped by more than two-thirds over a two-year period. So certainly we want to make sure that something is done to allow for fair competition.”
Low’s bill comes as taxi companies say strict regulation over fares, licensing, vehicle compliance and limiting the distance cabs can travel have become drags on their ability to do business. Tom Perumean, KABC NEWS.
