The 2nd Annual Dwayne McDuffie Award, celebrating those advancing diversity in animation, comics and new media, was handed out over the weekend.
The Award was handed out at the Long Beach Comic Expo, Saturday. Finalist Brandon Easton spoke about the state of diversity in comics and animation:
“There are so many writers of color and women of color who have a lot to say and a lot to offer and don’t even get the opportunities. So the more that light is shined on these creators, that hopefully some where somebody will say: OK, lets give them a shot.”
Ms Marvel creator G. Willow Wilson won this year’s McDuffie Award for Diversity. The award was created posthumously to honor those who carry on the spirit of Dwayne McDuffie, a leading African American writer of comics and animation entertainment. Tom Perumean, KABC NEWS.
