Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is suffering from the fact that she cannot play the gender card in 2016 the way it may could been done in earlier decades. That’s according to Penn State Communications Professor Dr. Nichola Gutgold, who says young female voters are not connecting with the Democrat as a symbol of feminist achievement.
They have never known a time in their lives when a Clinton was not either in the White House or running for the White House. And for many young voters, she does not represent the feminist icon that Hillary Clinton would like to be. Instead, she represents the establishment for a lot of young women.
Dr. Gutgold says young women are looking at Hillary Clinton’s like the other candidates, paying more attention to what they have to say about America’s future. When Hillary brings in icons such as feminist pioneer Gloria Steinem and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to stump for her, the problem, says Dr. Gutgold, is that many young women have no idea who these people are. Dr. Gutgold was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terrie Rae Elmer.
